Preparing for Your Poodle Puppy?

  Bringing home a new puppy is an exciting experience. Preparing a safe and comfortable space in advance can help make the transition easier for both your puppy and your family.

ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES

  Before bringing your puppy home, we recommend preparing:

• Food and water bowls
• The puppy food currently being used
• A secure playpen or appropriately sized crate
• A comfortable bed
• A potty tray or training pads
• A properly fitted harness and lightweight leash
• A secure travel carrier
• Safe, size-appropriate toys
• A brush, comb, puppy shampoo, and other grooming supplies
• Pet-safe cleaning supplies

FOOD AND WATER

  Continue feeding the same food and following the feeding schedule provided at pickup. Sudden food changes may upset a puppy’s stomach, so any transition to a different food should be made gradually with guidance from your veterinarian.

Fresh water should always be available unless your veterinarian advises otherwise.

SAFE SPACE AND CRATE INTRODUCTION

  A playpen or crate can provide your puppy with a secure place to rest and adjust to their new surroundings. The space should be large enough for the puppy to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably.

Introduce the crate gradually and positively. Never use it as punishment. Bedding and toys should be appropriate for the puppy’s size and monitored for chewing or damage.

POTTY ROUTINE

  Choose a consistent potty location and guide your puppy there after waking, eating, drinking, and playing. Praise calm and successful behavior. Accidents are a normal part of learning, so patience and consistency are important.

TOYS AND GROOMING

  Choose lightweight toys without small or loose pieces that could be swallowed. Supervise play and replace any damaged toys.

Gentle brushing and regular handling of the paws, ears, and mouth can help your puppy become comfortable with grooming and routine care.

VETERINARY CARE

  You will receive the puppy’s available vaccination and deworming records at pickup. Please establish care with a licensed veterinarian and follow their recommendations for future vaccinations, deworming, nutrition, microchipping, and preventive care.
